BBC The Missing with James Nesbitt starts tonight

I’ve recently been watching quite a few BBC programmes, especially drama has been getting better and better. If you get a chance to grab these i heartily recommend The Honourable Woman and Our Girl (the latter has just finished and i enjoyed it a lot, which was surprising, especially since i feel quite conflicted on the theme of troupes abroad, it did also change some my views on the subject somewhat which i thought was a good thing too).

So tonight a new one starts on BBC One at 9pm, The Missing (link will take you to the BBC site with clips and details on characters and plot). It’s described as a relationship thriller, told over two time frames and two countries and it explores the emotional fallout of a child’s abduction not only on the family but on the wider community. James Nesbitt plays Tony Hughes, ‘a devoted family man, who is looking after his son, Oliver, when he suddenly goes missing while on holiday in France. Tony holds himself responsible for Oliver’s disappearance and finds it impossible to move on with his life as he becomes completely consumed with locating his son.’

The relationships and psychological aspects as well as the time shifts were a particular challenge for the actors as the director Tom Shankland explains in further details in his blog, focusing particularly on the on screen chemistry between James Nesbitt and Tcheky Karyo (who plays the police detective Julien Baptiste) – which i can’t wait to see!

  1. I really liked ‘The Honourable Woman’, great story and great cast! Thanks for the heads up for ‘The Missing’! I knew it was coming sometimes in fall but had totally forgotten about it…

    • ah didn’t know you could watch it but i think they make them available on Iplayer don’t they 🙂 This is looking good too, i hope i don’t fall asleep in my hotel bed tonight and watch it. Thank God for Iplayer! Because this is competing with my fav thing on telly at the moment the BBC two Brian Cox Human Universe! And then i have AUJ as Thorin-homework to watch :-p Good thing is i can download the BBC stuff on my PC and watch on iplayer on the train in way back so i may stick with AUJ tonight 🙂

  2. BBC produces extraordinary products, but unfortunately here in Italy are difficult to see, I guess due to rights issues. The pay TV I’m subscribed, Sky, broadcasts mostly HBO and Fox products. No sign of broadcasting The Hollow Crown in any channel, for instance. And Sherlock is broadcasted by Italia1, jammed with advertisings and without double audio. To cut a long story short: BBC Online shop and Amazon are extremely happy about this. 🙂

    • ;-)) yes they are, thanks very much for buying :-p but it’s all worth and worth waiting for offers :-p I know some stuff made it to Italy, like the Paradise but generally it sells less sometimes than the more commercial stuff which is a pity..
