Makes one want to go and relax and reconnect with nature. And i came across this during my grumpy morning coffee and now i feel very relaxed, you should try it too πππππ

they are indeed π and it all seems so peaceful π It made me laugh and relax at the same time. It’s beautiful and naff at the same time. I always loved that about Scotland and it’s people, the beauty and also not taking things too seriously.

tell me about it, feel knackered, lucky it was Monday, definitely need to be fresh for it. Took me by surprise as normally clocks in at around 3h 15′ with 1 short interval. They had 2x15min ones but still the longest version i’ve heard. I heard some extended monologues and bits i had never had the pleasure of hearing before, liked that! It’s really good, never felt like 4h really and Andrew Scott is particularly good. I love the play and when done well it laves you thinking about it for long after. Had trouble winding down to sleep and it will stay with me for a while. Hope i can go again, runs til April 15th. Sold out BUT there are always returns and a few day tickets so if you happen to come would be worth me cueing and trying to get us some tickets. You’d really like him i think. The whole cast is good, Juliete Stevenson as Gertrude is great and so is ghost/player, Polonius, Ophelia. Like in the RSC one they have a strong Ophelia and it does make the difference. I also rather like the production although music a bit too loud sometimes (seems to be the fashion ;-)) Considering i only saw the 2nd preview! it is very well put together and only a few things to iron out. Not all production choices work perfectly for me but they don’t bother either. And it’s very hard to be as good in fight scenes as the RSC gets π
Hamlet is such an interesting ones, i’ve seen 4 Hamlets so far, pardon, 5 actually and 4 of them i really really liked and each was very different. And you realise good with Hamlet can mean so many things, he can be introverted, innocent, older, extroverted, angry, nearly mad, playful, melancholic or rational and each version works.
This one did not make me cry, which was also interesting.
Maybe i should write a post about Hamlet LOL.

Did Scott put on an English accent for his turn as the Danish prince?

No, he didn’t which is great. There’s no reason to really and it worked well in this production. I had forgotten he is from Dublin until he opened his mouth π I think it was a good choice not just for the natural feel of the production but also because a lot of usual cuts are not there, which is why the length. Best to focus on just the acting and all that text than have to deal with putting o accents too. It’s a contemporary setting as well so another reason to keep it as is. His natural accent made it sound more contemporary in a way, the language felt fresh which i liked. (He’s a lot better than ehem..) I was shocked reading up on him a bit more than he’s 40. Didn’t feel like it but also explains why the performance is so rounded and assured, he’s got significant theatrical experience. And he confirmed what i already suspected Hamlet is not an age thing. Yes , he can be the young and innocent prince but he can be so many other things. I couldn’t stop thinking at least 100x last night i wish he would do it, i wish he would do it! there is so much depth, so much to explore in the character, he could o so much with it… it frustrates me immensely, like banging my fists and head against a wall frustration. Sigh
