Track list:

Sorry for the lack of postings, it’s been a bit stressful at work lately and my batteries are just flagging, not enough power left for proper writing. Seems to be set to go on for a while so i’ve been ploughing my ears with as much comfort as possible 🙂

I’ve just finished a few audio-books and this morning heard the last of Darcy proposing again to Lizzy so have switched to music and stumbled upon this. I love Juan Diego Florez in all his incarnations but i love it when he sings ‘easy listen’ music. Maybe because he does it better than the vast majority of operatic singers out there 🙂 Probably also because he started off as a pop-singer himself and he can lay on the schmalz with the best of them an in a really honest, heartfelt mode.

There is just something about his voice and the familiar tunes, the sound of guitar and accordion, the memories of Italy, the sun, the car 😉 that provided the much needed relief.

Enjoy!!

  1. Funny enough I’ve always hated tenors singing songs of the popular rep …..until a Mr. Kaufmann brilliantly recorded a bunch of schlagers! I might even give a chance to JDF if you strongly advise so 😉

    • Oh Juandi is the original in his own right, after all he started sining these things before he even touched opera 🙂 He’s absolutely great at it, specially in latin american songs. I actually love his Sentimiento latino even more. Just like Jonas is great at operetta, both because they don’t sing it like tenors would 🙂 But i also like this stuff and quite a bit of schmalz 🙂

    • yesss, he is very special singer! You probably realised by now that i have an all over weak spot for tenors (and baritones i might add;-)) Juandi as he is affectionately called is great, he is the greatest Rossini singer in living memory and not only that, he has a unique voice an incredible natural ability and amazingly now past his 40 it is still as agile and lovely as it was years ago which is not how it usually goes down for tenors. But on top of that he is utterly charming and incredibly funny. I absolutely adore it when he sings Latin American songs which is is great at! Because this is what he grew up singing and did on stage in his early youth, just tagged on to the one you saw there was this youtube from a recent concert where he gave an example of this stuff live. I’ll add the link below. He is to my mind one of the very few who can do it authentically and emotionally right, because it is in his blood and in his voice. A lot of tenors especially try and sing this popular stuff in their careers because it appeals to the crowds but they can only sing operatically if that makes sense. Whereas he has always sung it naturally as any singer would, of course he can do the frills and thrills but it sounds rights not like an opera singer trying to be something else, in fact in many you forget he is an opera singer almost. You would certainly not think of him as the greatest Rossini tenor ever when you hear him singing this stuff 🙂 You think of a hot blooded latin male trying to charm the skirts of some ‘guapa’ , which he so is :-p (married to a lovely lady and with 2 kids 😉 )
So here is the encore in one of his recent concerts 🙂
